WHEN & WHERE TO USE A PRESS RELEASE

Opening a new office or sponsoring a community service event are
appropriate times to consider using a press release. 

Send your Press Release to local newspapers by all means but you may also
want to send your Press Release to Chamber of Commerce members and members
of other clubs and organizations.  In the sample Press Release provided in
this Tutorial, the special event involves sponsoring a Junior Athletic
Clinic, which indicates that all school coaches should be notified as well
as all youth sports team coaches.  It would be perfectly appropriate to
mail your press release to residents in the area to ensure that parents are
aware of the event.

BASIC PRESS RELEASE ELEMENTS

There are seven basic elements that every press release
should have in terms of content and how it appears.

· FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: These words appear in the upper left-hand margin,
just under your letterhead. To make this heading stand out, always boldface
and capitalize every letter.

· Content Information: Skip a line or two after the
heading and list your name, title, telephone, fax, Web
address and E-mail address.

· Headline Title: Skip two lines after contact information and list in
boldface and centered you headline title.

· Dateline: The city your press release issued from and
the date your are mailing your release will begin your
first sentence.

· Lead Paragraph: The fist paragraph needs to grab the
readers attention but also quickly impart the relevant
information key to your message such as the who, what, where, when, why and
how so vital to a news story.

· Text: The main body of your press release should
thoroughly develop your angle.

· Concluding Recap: At the bottom left hand corner of
your last page restate your Web address and restate one
or more irresistible offers on your Web.

Elements and is written to promote a Junior Athletic Clinic.

Doctor Sponsors Junior Athletic Clinic

 

Your City, Date. Your Name, D.C. will provide a Junior Athletic Clinic for
all children under 12 who are
involved in community sports. The clinic will be held
at the Midtown Mall on Saturday morning from 8 AM to Noon on Date, 1999.
Any girl or boy involved in baseball, soccer, swimming, football,
basketball or any other sport is invited to take part in a physical
evaluation in order to prevent sports injuries. A minimal $5.00 charge per
child will be donated to the school district to be used to promote physical
education in all grades.


"The purpose of this clinic is to identify areas of
muscle weakness that may lead to injury when a child
participates in a particular sport," says Dr. Your Name.
The doctor will offer all parents printed information
that will guide them with specific exercise to build up
areas of muscle weakness in their children. It is
important to prevent muscle or soft tissue injuries in
children because once injured, tissues never heal the
same as before. It is good for kids to be involved in
athletics but care needs to be taken to prevent
injuries.

No appointment is needed. Children must be accompanied by their parent or
